Something about me

Hello! As you know my name is Delia. I am a 36 years old mother of two, and I live in Hertfordshire (UK). A heavily pregnant me, my husband, daughter and dog, moved here from Italy four years ago. After having my second child I joined a local Slimming World group and, even if my English was far from perfect, I felt welcome from the first day. In about four months I lost almost three stones (all the baby weight!). The amount and variety of foods I could eat were amazing, I hardly believed I could have carbs freely and still lose weight. True, weight loss was slow, sometimes as slow as 0.5 pounds a week, but I lost weight most weeks.

In May of that year (2015), things started to slow down and eventually stopped. I lost very little on most weeks, just to gain it back during a particularly ‘bad week’. It was a stressful period of my life and eating comforted me, I just couldn’t cope with 15 syns a day. On top of that, I had to change group because of my husband’s work. I maintained my weight for over 6 months, but I had lost momentum. Moreover, being used in group as an example of someone not giving up even if not losing weight was slightly mortifying.

In the end, I gave up and left my group. I decided to try to go back to my old dieting styles: no carbs, no fats, no dairy products. Basically, I was starving myself, and, like many times before, I failed. In the coming years, I tried a wide range of new diets: intermittent fasting, paleo, keto and The Body Coach. But everything failed, and I was left every time more disappointed in myself.

About 4 months ago I decided I had enough. It felt like I was always on a diet and I couldn’t cope with this anymore. But at 13st 4.5lbs I am still overweight. I struggle to keep up with my children and my constant worrying about my figure makes everyday life a challenge. Therefore I decided to go back to the only thing that had worked for me: Slimming World. I joined another group in my area, and as I write, I am in my first week.

I am starting this blog as a way of sharing my journey, especially all the delicious recipes allowed by the plan. Hopefully, this will keep me on track, and at the same time, inspire some of you to jump on this train with me.

Love

Delia
